ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: New York Fashion Week: Men's is heating up the city as designers debut their spring/summer 2017 collections. On Monday (July 11), the first day of shows, five brands shared space at lower Manhattan's Industria Studios to present their newest collection. David Naman is making its U.S. debut after conquering Europe and Asia by opening 100 stores over the past ten years. The brand's North American president, Jon Mckinney, said the line is about what's relevant and has a point of view without being absurd. Plac showed a colorful collection inspired by English painter David Hockney. Surf's up for David Hart with custom bamboo, surfboard and tropical prints created in England, Japan and Italy. "This season was inspired by surf culture in the '60s and '70s in southern California. I was looking at a lot of photographs by LeRoy Grannis and listening to a lot of music by Dick Dale and Link Wray," said Hart. Wood House showed a mix of bold prints and color, taking cues from "the gentlemen of the 1920's." While Max n' Chester designer Peter Trainor found his inspiration from within. "We don't really shop, we don't really pay attention to what's going on around us, we just concentrate on what we want to do and what we think is the right thing," said Trainor. Military uniforms of the 40's and 50's were the base for Maiden Noir as the brand showed a collection that featured clean lines and loose proportion. Muted olives, tans and coral were paired with hues of blue. New York Fashion Week: Men's will run from July 11 until July 14.
