McQuarrie's classic design lives on?
In addition to his work on Star Wars, legendary concept designer Ralph McQuarrie also created Enterprise concept art for a Star Trek movie back in the 1970s (update: McQuarrie worked with production designer Ken Adam on these concepts). While the film never got made, it looks like his design may have been used as inspiration for the new ship featured in Bryan Fuller's upcoming television series Star Trek: Discovery.
Check out the slideshow below to see a few images of McQuarrie's original concept art (via io9), as well as the Star Trek TV show's new U.S.S. Discovery, which made its debut this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con.
It's important to note that CBS has not confirmed nor denied the new U.S.S Discovery is based on McQuarrie's design.

Update: According to io9, Fuller was asked about the McQuarrie design at a SDCC press conference. Fuller implied the design was based on the legendary artist's concept, but "to a point that we can't legally comment on it until [our legal team] figures out some things."
He also confirmed that the new show will be set in the Prime (original) timeline rather than the J.J. Abrams movie timeline, which we already knew more or less, but can now consider official.
