CARIBBEAT: Third Tuesday CAFE Fashion and Culture Salon returns with Caribbean-inspired clothe and accessories

With fashion and entertainment on the agenda, the July edition of the Third Tuesday CAFE Fashion and Culture Salon will be held Tuesday in Brooklyn at the BKLYN Commons event space, 495 Flatbush Ave. (between Empire Blvd. and Lefferts Ave.), starting at 7:30 p.m.


Nationally spirited, colored hand fans from the Caribbean-based Flag Fantasy company, accessories from Gifted Hands community organization, BigO Creations' candles and soaps from Angela de Freitas of Barbados, designs from Tafari Tribe and handcrafted works by Struggs are some of the items available at this popup shop of Caribbean designers and business owners, said Janice Lawrence-Clarke, founder of CAFE (the Caribbean American Fashion Exchange).

And there's entertainment too — Haitian cultural artist Monvelyno and his Bohio Music band will perform.

TASTY GRACE JERK FESTIVAL RETURNS

Tastes and sounds dominate Sunday's Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival NY, which features scrumptious food and the reggae group Third World, dance hall stars Dexta Daps and Tifa, reggae singers Gyptian and Ikaya, and soca superstar Rupee.

The sixth annual, daylong family-friendly event — which will be held at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens from noon to 8 p.m. — is an activity-filled affair featuring a wide variety of jerk delicacies and other Caribbean food and drink, celebrity Grace Jerk Cook-Off, culinary demonstrations, cultural presentations on the Western Union stage, and a Kidz Zone for youngsters and all the entertainment on the main stage.

The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival New York is presented by Jamaican Jerk Festival NY, in association with VP Records and sponsors Grace Foods, Western Union, Continental Bakery, Vitamalt, Power 106, Reggae King Radio, Street Hype and Tower Isle Patties.

'THANKS' FOR GUYANA'S 50TH BIRTHDAY

Celebration of Guyana's 50th anniversary of independence continues Friday at Brooklyn Borough Hall, with a Unity Thanksgiving affair that also marks the 25th birthday of the New York area's Guyana Tri-State Alliance. Guyana Tri-State is sponsoring the gathering of religious leaders, friends and supporters of the Guyanese community at 5:30 p.m.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and City Councilman Mathieu Eugene are among the friends, supporters, religious leaders and others honoring the anniversary. A "Taste of Guyana' reception with "back home" food and drinks, music and awards presentations and recognitions are part of the event's lineup.

There will be a number of awardees recognized at the affair, such as Youth Award honoree Kamiyah Parchment. Tribute will also be paid to Guyana trailblazers through Special and Illustrious Awardees — including former President Forbes Sampson Burnham and former President Cheddi Jagan.

REGGAE CRUISE TO CAYMANS, JAMAICA
